Wisconsin’s men’s basketball team beat Rutgers Saturday afternoon, 96-87. The Badgers have had trouble with the Scarlett Knights in the past few years. Rutgers came into Madison at 9-8 and 2-4 in the Big Ten. Wisconsin came in at 12-5 and 4-2 in the Big Ten.
In the first half, the Badgers were stopping the Knights. They held a twenty plus lead. John Blackwell was playing great and hitting three pointers. Nick Boyd and Nolan Winter were solid. In the second half, it was a totally different game. Wisconsin could not hit a three. They took Winters out of the game. Braedon Carrington hit two threes , but that was all. Blackwell played okay, but the person who kept us in the lead was Nick Boyd.
Rutgers started hitting all their threes in the last five minutes. Our defense couldn’t stop anyone, but Boyd would hit tough shots and got fouled. The Knights got it within seven, but right after that they fouled Boyd, Nick Boyd hit both of the free throws and put the game away. Wisconsin’s high scorer was Boyd with 32 points, John Blackwell added 19 points. Wisconsin goes to Happy Valley next.
