Greg Gard had huge shoes to fill being Bo Ryan’s hand picked successor. Bo Ryan won multiple national championships at UW Platteville, with Gard as assistant coach. Coach Ryan made it to two final fours and one national Championship game, before he left in the middle of the 2015-2016 season. Greg Gard has had a successful coaching career. He has made it to the NCAA tournament eight out of ten years. Wisconsin is on pace to make it nine times this year. The two seasons he did not go to the NCAA tournament, he went to the NIT and the other year they went nowhere.
Gard has been a very consistent coach. Wisconsin has a good chance to go to the tournament every year, with him leading the team. Bo Ryan was the same way just with a better resume. It also took Ryan over ten years to make it to the final four. Greg Gard has sixteen wins against top ten teams and nine wins against top five teams. He is tied for the best in the nation under the same timeframe. Gard also has thirteen wins against top twenty five teams on the road, which is second in the NCAA at this time.
Wisconsin is recruiting well, from high school players to the transfer portal players. College Basketball is entertaining every year, because you never know who is going to have a great year. We however can count on Wisconsin, that they will be in the conversation every year. I don’t know if he will take the Badgers to Final Fours, but I do know he will do his best to get us winning the National Championship. Bo Ryan is the winningest Badger coach, so you know he learned from the best.
