Thursday night is the NBA draft. Milwaukee owns the 24th overall pick in this years draft. They do not have a second round because of the mess with Sacramento. The Bucks are in a win now mode, since they have four years left with Giannis on his contract. Milwaukee has depth in most positions. Their biggest need is center/power forward. Brook Lopez is getting another year older and I think Bobby Portis is better at power forward. Last year Bobby had to play the five spot, because of injuries and was solid.
They traded for Serge Ibaka before the trade deadline and he didn’t work out for them. The depth chart at center looks like this, Brooks Lopez, Bobby Portis, and Sandro Mamukelashvili. When I look at that I see one center and two flex players. I think Bobby and Sandro are both better at power forward, but can also play center. The Bucks also played Giannis at the five too.
When you look at this draft there are quite a few solid center prospects. The top five are Chet Holmgren from Gonzaga, Jalen Duren from Memphis, Mark Williams from Duke, Christian Koloko from Arizona, and Walker Kessler from Auburn. If the Bucks can get any of these or another center, I would be happy. Jon Horst has the final decision, so let’s sit back and watch who he drafts.
