34 Years In The Making

In Cleveland Ohio, on September 11, 2021, the Brewers threw a combined no hitter against the Indians. Cleveland has been part of three no hitters this year. It was Milwaukee’s first no hitter in 34 years. Corbin Burnes started the game and went eight full innings striking out fourteen batters. In the ninth inning, Josh Hader came in and shut the door with two strikeouts and a great catch from Jace Peterson. The last no hitter Milwaukee had was on April 15 1987 thrown by Juan Nieves. In that game, Robin Yount made an outstanding catch to keep the no hitter intact. Milwaukee has had quite a few close calls in the past, but just couldn’t get it. Now after this no hitter from Burnes and Hader, people are talking about Burnes winning the CY Young award.

Only two other Brewer pitchers have won the award, Rollie Fingers and Pete Vuckovich. They both pitched when Milwaukee was in the American League. No Milwaukee Brewer’s pitcher has ever won the award as part of the National League. This Brewers pitching staff is one of the best ever and I would not be surprised if they get another no hitter. In 2021, there has been nine no hitters including Saturday. The teams that Milwaukee has left on the schedule are Mets, Cubs, Tigers, Cardinals, and Dodgers, all could allow a no hitter on them except the Dodgers. Milwaukee has eighteen games left, so let’s see what happens.

I hope it doesn’t take another 34 years for the next no hitter in Milwaukee.
