Does Wisconsin Need A New OC

Wisconsin finished the season last Saturday with a loss to Minnesota. Their season record was 8-4, which is respectable at many schools, but disappointing at Wisconsin. Paul Chryst’s offense, the last two years, looked stale. The Badger’s passing game has not been good. Johnathon Taylor was our offense durning his three years. Jack Coan was efficient, but not a world class quarterback like others in the Big Ten. Graham Mertz is an inconsistent quarterback. He looks like a great quarterback on some throws, but can look like a high school quarterback on other throws.

Paul Chryst was a very creative offensive coordinator in his time at Wisconsin. He helped put seventy points up against Nebraska in the Big Ten Championship. Wisconsin ran jet sweeps and even had our running backs throw touchdowns from the wildcat. When he took over play calling, I was excited to see those plays again. The only thing is he doesn’t run them anymore.

If you look at Michigan this year, you see how much a good coordinator can help the team. Jim Harbaugh hired a new coordinator this year. He was the linebackers coach for the Ravens. He came in with new fresh ideas and new plays. Now they are on the way to the 2021 College Football Playoffs. If Wisconsin wants to get to the Playoffs, we need new fresh offensive plays.

I love Paul Chryst as a head coach, but I think it’s time to get a new offensive coordinator. Joe Rudolph is an ok coach, but not a good coordinator. Paul needs to look outside the program for the next new OC. If he does that, I think we have a good shot ourselves to make the playoffs. Jim Leonard is a great defensive coordinator, so we are ok on that side of the ball.

I hope after the bowl game Paul takes a look into his staff and makes the decision to get a new offensive coordinator.

On Wisconsin!!
