Thursday night was a long night, we saw a lot of talented players come off the board before, the Packers were able to pick at 29 when our time came, I was very excited about the options we could have picked. Terrace Marshall was still there, Rondale Moore was still there, Tevin Jenkins the Tackle was still there, but Brian did what he usually does and drafted a guy that was projected in the 2nd or third round, Eric Stokes. The player is talented and it is a need but I thought they had better options and still could have gotten him in a later round.
Day two was a better day. The Packers gained two great pieces that can start on day one. The first is Josh Myers Center out of Ohio State. Myers is a needed pick since Corey Linsley left in free agency, ironically he was from Ohio State, so if Myers is anything like Linsley, we found a Pro Bowler in the second round. We moved up in the third round to take Amari Rodgers out of Clemson who plays the slot which the Packers need very badly. He also can start day one, they say he is a better Randall Cobb. I love to hear that from people that know him.
This years day three was the best day three Gutekunst has had since taking over the general manger position. I love every pick they made. We got depth or potential starter with every pick and did not reach for anyone.
The fourth round pick, Royce Newman, is at the worst, guard depth at the best, starting right tackle. The fifth round selection, Tedarrell Slaton, is going to be the back up to Kenny Clark which we didn’t have last year and it showed; with the second selection we chose Shemar Jean-Charles. He is cornerback depth this year and could be the third or fourth corner next year. Now let’s talk the sixth round pick, Cole Van Lanen. Cole was a great offensive tackle and guard at the University of Wisconsin, which means he is going to bring depth to Green Bay offensive line. I can see him being a starter sometime in the future. If you can find great depth and a future potential starter you made a great pick. Let’s talk about the seventh round selection. Green Bay took a running back out of Mississippi State Kylin Hill. He is a good third string running back. Kylin was a second team SEC player with over a thousand yards rushing and sixty seven receptions, so getting him in the seventh round is a steal. I still wish it would have been a Wide Receiver.
My Final grade: A-
