The Badgers offense last weekend was pathetic. Graham Mertz was not good against Penn State. Chez Mellusi was the only bright spot last week on offense. Wisconsin’s defense was amazing in the first half and we could not take advantage of it. Graham started slow, but I wasn’t surprised, since Chryst wanted to run the ball with Chez. At the end of the first half we were tied, even though we had the ball for eighteen minutes. Wisconsin got the ball first out of halftime, so I thought we would come out and shove the ball down their throat, but man was I wrong. Graham did not have time in the pocket all game.
The offensive line did not play a great game. They were ok in run blocking, but pass blocking they were terrible. This does not excuse Mertz’s two interceptions that he threw. He also missed wide open receivers which last year he hit. Graham needs to get better quickly because Wisconsin does not have an easy schedule this year. He needs to be more accurate and be able to hit the deep passes. We have seen him play a lot better and hopefully he plays to his full potential. On Saturday, September 11th, Wisconsin plays Eastern Michigan at 6:00 Central time. Wisconsin needs Graham to play well.
He needs to be able to hit open wide receivers and make sure he doesn’t make stupid decisions, that cost the Badgers points. On Saturday let’s see if Graham can play like the high recruit he came in as, or if he will play like another game manager quarterback.
