IS RODGERS A PACKER NEXT YEAR?

Free agency starts on March 16th. The Packers are fifty million dollars over the cap as of today. Green Bay has a lot of free agents on the team right now. Most or all of them made an impact on the team last year. Then there are the players that have a large cap hit, who also are key pieces to the Packers. Aaron Rodgers has the largest cap hit with a forty-six million dollar hit. A couple of other big hits are David Bakhtiari and Za’Darius Smith, which combined costs Green Bay forty-nine almost fifty million dollars. When you add those three players, they are costing close to one hundred million dollars. Cutting those players could solve the Packers cap space problem.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying Green Bay should do that, but there is another option. The Packers could restructure those three players plus a few others and still get cap room. The biggest piece in the puzzle is Davante Adams. He is one of the big name free agents in the NFL this year. Aaron Rodgers is waiting on what Green Bay does with him, before he decides where he is going to play next year. Adams has said he is looking for a contract worth ninety million dollars.

This brings me back to the question? “Is Rodgers a Packer next year”? My gut says yes, if they can work out a deal with Adams. Aaron said, at the end of the season, he does not want to play through a rebuild. If the Packers don’t sign him or franchise tag him, Rodgers will ask for a trade. Then comes the question, what does Green Bay do with Jordan Love.

My final thought is Green Bay is the best chance for Rodgers to win a Super Bowl. The teams that the Packers would think about trading him too are not Super Bowl contenders. They would have a better chance with Rodgers, but they will have to spend a lot of money to get others to join him. Aaron will cost most of the other teams cap room, so I don’t see them being able to get enough players to win a Super Bowl. On the other hand, Green Bay can restructure players and keep the team mostly intact. I think that number twelve will be under center next season.

Go Pack Go!!
