Milwaukee Brewers were very active at the trade deadline. David Stearns made a blockbuster move by trading Josh Hader for five players, four which are pitchers. The two biggest pieces were closer Taylor Rodgers and Esteury Ruiz a Right Fielder, who also plays center. They also traded for Matt Bush, a pitcher from the Texas Rangers. Last but not least they traded for Trevor Rosenthal, who has not played a game this year.
It has been reported that a lot of the Brewer players were shocked about Hader being traded. David made the trade, because he knew he wasn’t going to be able to sign Josh to a long term deal. He is always looking to restock the cupboard. The only way the Brewers can stay competitive is, if they keep getting young talent. Milwaukee does not have a big bank roll, so trading and the draft are the only way we can build our team. Since Stearns took over the Brewers front office in 2015, we have made the playoffs four times. The Brewers had never made the playoff three times in a row, until David became general manager. Now it’s about to be the fifth straight year this season.
A lot of fans were hoping they would get a first baseman, but Milwaukee decided to bolster their bull pen. The pitchers that they got give Counsell a lot of flexibility. Taylor Rodgers has twenty eight saves this year. If Trevor Rosenthal can pitch like he did in Saint Louis, he will really help the back of the bullpen. Matt Bush is also an experienced arm for the Brewers.
Overall, I like what Milwaukee did at the deadline. I know that fans will miss Hader, but sometimes you have to make difficult decisions for the best of the team. Also picking up another center fielder, will help us next year. They also free up money to sign Burnes to an extension, which should be a top priority for the team’s future success.
